A bit more Quebec

We FaceTimed with Susan (she was watching MacKenzie) and she asked what we thought of a certain area of town and we were confused. We’d not seen that area. We decided that maybe we’d not seen all of old town Quebec City as we thought we had so we caught the hotel’s bus to town again. They were hosting a big bike race in the city so streets were closed everywhere and the bus had to take some side streets. The driver was ill-prepared for this and slammed the bus into something and threw all of us forward. Jackson was able to catch himself with no issue. I, on the other hand, was on the aisle and got thrown pretty hard into the seat in front of me. Instantly my right arm swelled up and I was in insane pain. I was so concerned that I’d managed to break my arm in a foreign county with socialized medicine and would have a crooked arm forever (back to the dramatics…).

Luckily, it was just a nasty bruise, but it did stop us from renting bikes and riding out to a big waterfall which was a real bummer. Instead we found the really cool part of old town that Susie mentioned (good save, thanks again, Susie!) and hung out there, walked around, took their famous never-ending staircase and grabbed lunch at a local gem, Le Chic Shack. I had the best sweet potato fries on the planet there and will never be the same. They still fry their stuff in real lard and it makes things just delightful.
When in a French area...always have pastries!

Another church to tour

Isn't the gold work something?!

So ornate!

The famous murals of old town

How cute are these streets?!

This staircase was INSANE.

Chic Shack was amazing!

Arnold Palmer and Jackson make my heart happy

This Dali original is worth over $1M and
was just sitting there

Another view of their fancy
Fairmount hotel
The big fancy hotel had an actual Dali sculpture sitting outside so we got drinks from Starbucks and sat and admired it. We attended some street performances (Jackson loves those) and then caught the bus back to our hotel.
A true photo of travel!!

Celebrating ordering in French!

By now the need to do laundry was great so we found a local place and stopped in. Luckily the laundry facility was near a café so once we got our loads going we headed up to have a warm drink. The café was not crowded so I practiced my French and ordered a “small hot chocolate for here, please” entirely in French and the barista UNDERSTOOD ME! WHAT?! I’m basically fluent now. Two trips to France in the summer and one week in French Canada and I’m fluent! Amazing. I should probably get a flat in Paris now.

Once I came back down to earth and realized that this ordering accomplishment was not actually a big deal, we finished our laundry and grabbed some dinner. It was finally our last night in Quebec City (we’d overestimated how much there would be to do in the area) so naturally we went to the hot tub, then packed up and prepared to head to Montreal in the morning.
