Rome (day 2)

Sunday was another day of exploring the big, dirty city of Rome! We walked all around the city until we got hungry or tired. Then we'd sit in the shade or we'd grab a bite to eat. They use gelato as air conditioning here so we had it daily. Hey, when in Rome... :)
Tiny elevator terror- ha!

Monuments...

Trevi Foundation
(not pictured 1,000,000 tourists)
We found the fountain to be really gorgeous. It is just people and selfie sticks ruin a lot of places. I love a good selfie. I don't like selfie sticks, though.
Quick pizza by the weight break!
The pizza here is so generous on tomatoes. It is like eating salsa on bread. LOVELY!
Cooling off in the shade

Jackson's favorite monument, Altare della Patria
Started in 1885, finish in 1925 and still GORGEOUS

Pantheon, built 118–128 AD

Pantheon is derived from the Ancient Greek "Pantheion" meaning of, relating to,
or common to all the gods
The Pantheon was once a place of Roman Pagan worship. It is now just a traditional church. They say it was so well-preserved due to near constant use throughout history. It is the inspiration for many modern buildings.
Exploring

Tired feet.

epic street performers, though
Dirty streets

just funny.
In excellent news, we found a gelato place near our apartment that served Snickers flavored gelato. WHAT?! They are super traditional with their flavors (vanilla, chocolate, banana- yuck) so finding this was amazing. It was SO good.
Gelato makes the world feel better, though
We did it backwards and had dessert before dinner. Why? Vacation. That's why!
Bruschetta
"bruˈsketta"

Unbelievable pasta!!!!
It is so cliche, but the pasta really is the best thing I've ever tasted. I've not had a single dish of carbs ever compare.
More ruins...
Once it cooled off we put our walking shoes on (again) and meandered through the city until it was too dark out to see anything new. It was a hot day of exploring, but Rome is worth seeing. I'd just adjust your expectations. I was simply expecting it to be like walking back in time and it was not.
