Rome (day 4)

We had to be out of the apartment at 10 a.m. so we spent the morning packing and getting around for that. Once we were homeless we took our luggage over to a storage place near the train station (much easier to find once you've got working GPS, thank you, Google). For a mere 20 Euros we got to leave our stuff so that we could spend the morning exploring before our 3:00 train.

We walked back over to our neighborhood to grab cappuccinos at a cafe we really liked.
I had no idea a street cleaner had ever met a Roman road!

I'll miss these beauties
Since we had time to kill, we decided to tour the church our apartment had overlooked. It was really pretty inside.
More ornate decor

I wore their shawl of shame because I had to cover my shoulders

No idea, but neat
It was finally time for our favorite gelato stand to open (3rd day in a row that we went there) so we grabbed a final Snickers cone before taking off to on one last Roman adventure.
Snickers. You complete me.
It was like a new city this Tuesday morning. We found out that it had been a holiday weekend celebrating Italy becoming a republic so people had no worked Thursday-Monday. A 5-day weekend! Can you imagine that in the U.S.? NO! Since everyone was back to work, the city was actually manageable.
We walked by the Colosseum again

It was my favorite

So few people!!!

Darn near empty! It was AMAZING!

One last look back at my old friend
We eventually got hot and tired (easy things to do when wandering around Rome in June) so we headed for the train station again. We grabbed our luggage and waited the hour for our train. The station was more like an airport with a mall in it so we passed the time pretty quickly. Soon enough we boarded our high-speed train headed for Venice!
