Kalalau Trail

We got going early again and headed to the other side of the island to do a hike we'd again read about while researching the trip. It was a gorgeous drive over to this side of the island. It turns out a lot of people read about this area and it was PACKED!

These views never get old

Always ahead of me...
It turns out that the hike we had done the day before had rendering my knee pretty well useless. We only made it about 1.5 miles into this trail before I just could not take another step up. We turned around and headed back for the beach to do some snorkeling. Then we realized that my snorkel set had broken in transit so I just sat on the beach while Jackson went exploring.
Lovely beach day

The view from my beach spot

I loved this place

A random view on the side of the road!
We consulted TripAdvisor for a good lunch spot and it lead us to Al Pastor's Tacos (no website but they are at: 4-1620 Kuhio Hwy, Kapaa, HI 96746). TripAdvisor lives for another day because these were the BEST TACOS we'd ever had. EVER. This place is a little food truck tucked up against a beach and it was just so authentically Hawaiian feeling.
THE BEST TACOS EVER

Obsessed with the tacos

We were in Heaven. I'm pretty sure they serve fish tacos in Heaven. Once we pried ourselves away from the tacos we headed back to the resort to play on the water slide (Jackson) and read a book (me). It was so fun to spend the mornings out adventuring then have a really nice place to return to for relaxing afternoons.

That evening we asked the concierge which pizza place they would recommend between two we'd found on TripAdvisor. They suggested Pizzetta and off we went. It too was amazing. We had the crab and artichoke dip followed by the best pizza. This pizza rivaled that in Italy. It was that good. It turns out the owner of Pizzetta is Italian and was pretty excited to get our feedback on the pies being just as good here as they were in her homeland. It was a day of excellent sights and excellent eats. I cannot complain!
A Hawaiian pizza in Hawaii!
