Naples to Fishers (BRR!)

The day after Christmas we had Aunt Kathy come down and bring her new pup, Gracie. She's an adopted schnauzer who is also 11. She was lovely!
Gracie!

What a sweet face!
She and MacKenzie tolerated each other without issue since neither is a pesky puppy! :) We had a nice lunch with the family and then headed down to catch sunset which is one of our favorite things to do in Naples.
Never gets old
Wednesday I actually had to work so Jackson made himself scarce. Once I was finished we headed to the beach for some late afternoon sun and to catch another sunset. We fall into a great routine of catching sunsets!
One morning I walked in and saw this and after my
heart finished exploding, I had to take a photo! Best friends!
I worked again on Thursday, but had Friday off so we spent the day going to our favorite breakfast spot, Skillets, then hitting the beach. Lovely!
Skillets' scones are AMAZING!

THE BEST FOOD.
Then we, naturally, hit the beach. LOVE IT!
Gorgeous sunset!
On Saturday morning we ran out to the citrus grove to get some amazing oranges. We love getting the fresh oranges down here.
YUM! Oranges!
Jackson went on a deep-sea fishing tour that he bought on Groupon. I stayed back and read a book in the sun with MacKenzie. It was a good compromise. :)
This face!!!
We went to the beach for NYE and had a little picnic. It was kind of chilly so we had to use our towels as blankets, but it was a cool way to celebrate.
Sun going down on 2017

Naples folks know how to make sand festive

Jackson is trying to take more photos so I actually
appear in something other than selfies. Wish us luck.

Gorgeous sunset

Fireworks over the water
Naples celebrated the new year at 7:30 pm. This was fine with us since it was a little chilly and allowed us to get home and get to bed since we were driving home in the morning. We'd planned to stay until January 8th, but a cold front moved in and made the beach a non-starter. We figured that without the beach we could just go home so that's what we did. We canceled our flights for the 8th (love that Southwest allows you to change plans without a penalty) and headed for home.
All settled in for the ride home
We made the drive better by listening to an audiobook and stopping at our favorite restaurants.
Sonny's BBQ!
We left Monday morning and stopped in Central Florida for lunch at Sonny's BBQ. LOVE THAT PLACE. Then we continued to head towards home until we got to TN where we stopped for a late dinner at Chuy's. I'd missed good Mexican food since neither Aruba nor Naples had it. Neither restaurant disappointed us and Jackson now knows the key to getting me to agree to roadtrips again- ha! We continued on to White House, TN (North of Nashville) where we spent the night because our eyes were heavy. It was SO cold there! What a rude awakening.

We got up early to make the 4 hour trip home. It was so easy. We never ran into traffic or construction. We had one minor slowdown for an accident for about 15 minutes. We had some rain in Florida, but nothing bad at all. We were so lucky! We got home to Fishers at around 10:30 and were pretty happy to be out of the car. It was not a bad drive, really. I had dreaded it, but it turns out good food, good company and a good book make a world of difference.
MacKenzie was stunned at the cold
as were we!
