The cruise countdown

Jackson is turning *gasp* 40 this May! WHAT?! It seems like just yesterday that I made us get married in the Fall instead of the summer because I didn't want to walk down the aisle to a 30-year-old OLD MAN! (That is a true story. Oh, to be so young again.) Anyway, to celebrate this milestone birthday he got to pick anywhere in the world to go on a family vacation sponsored by the generous Ms. Susan Petefish. He spent a lot of time thinking about where to take 4 women from ages 17-72 and finally settled on a Mediterranean cruise. We'll all be in Barcelona, Spain exploring for 1.5 days before boarding the Royal Princess ship and heading for Cartagena, Spain; Gibraltar; Marseille, France; Genoa, Italy; Florence/Pisa, Italy, and finally Rome. We'll all be in Rome until Tuesday when the girls head home and we go North to explore some more of Italy. We'll be flying home on Sunday June 11th from Milan. Needless to say we're dieting to prepare for this big adventure! :) We're also trying a little something new and reading a guidebook before hitting a location. I got the Rick Steves Italy, 2017 book from Amazon and I've been devouring all of this tips for a great Italian trip. I've spent so much time reading that we now talk about Rick like he's an old friend. "Rick says to go get coffee and use the restroom there instead of paying to use the public restrooms in Venice." HA! :)

Luckily, my brother got me the Whole 30 cookbook for Christmas like I asked him to! We spent Sunday making the first recipe from there for a Sweet Potato and Beef Chili (similar to this one) in the new enameled cast iron casserole dish I got from Mom and Guy for Christmas. Yes, it was February 19th and I was just getting to use Christmas gifts! That has to be a new record for me! (I love getting presents and using them immediately! It is a running joke in our family, actually.)

I'm beyond pleased to report that with some chopping help from Jackson, this recipe was a complete success and is delicious!

MacKenzie convinced us to go for ice cream
We even returned to our favorite cycle class this weekend (my knee did OK- hooray!) so we were totally killing the whole exercise and diet thing until "MacKenzie" suggested we walk down to Handel's to get ice cream to celebrate what a gorgeous weekend of weather we'd had. She is a sucker for their free pup-cones. HA! :) Oh well, we'll keep at it and hopefully these cruise photos will show off all of our hard work!

Back in IN

I think we were both excited to get MacKenzie home mainly so that she could try out her new sheepskin rug. The verdict? She LOVES it!!
Snuggled in

She blends right in!
Much to our mutual chagrin, MacKenzie's first day home was one with snow!!
"Take me back to Naples!"
We had Pacers versus Cleveland tickets so we battled the snowy roads and headed downtown for dinner at one of our favorites, Bosphorus, before hitting the game.
Such a handsome date and amazing food
I'm really not a huge NBA fan, but I'm fairly certain seeing LeBron James play in-person is a must-do for any sports fan. We had pretty decent seats (well, we were the front row of the lower balcony area) and enjoyed watching the Pacers blow a huge lead and lose. Whoops!
LeBron is down there. I promise!

By the time we got home from Naples, it was already mid-February and we needed to get our Valentine's Day treats delivered to our little loves.
Josslyn Bates agreed to be my valentine!
We spent time hanging out with the Bates family then dropped off valentines to the Porterfield kiddos, too. It is SO nice that they live within a mile of each other!

We finally got up to Marion to have a belated Christmas with my Dad and Diana!
The squad!

Everyone else looks better in this photo, but the last
one was better of me so I'm using both! HA!
I got a new zoom lens for my iPhone. How cool is that photo of my wedding ring?!
Taken with an iPhone! WOW!
They got Jackson a new little drone to play with that has already provided hours of entertainment around here! From Marion we continued our tour of Grant and Delaware counties by making a quick stop in at the Mauck's to deliver valentines and other assorted goods from "the big city."
Sir Liam is so big these days!

Two dirty dogs and Sir Liam playing
in the mud...that was the scene!

CASE!!!

This little guy still snuggles! Love it!
Kort is the most easy-going mom ever and allowed us to take her children outside on the lovely 66 degree day in February to play in the mud. We all played so hard including MacKenzie who was utterly filthy by the time we left!
MacK and Ella
We stopped in Upland that evening for a Duckwall family gathering and enjoyed catching up with family members we'd not seen in a long while. We got home super late Saturday night and MacKenzie was exhausted from a full day of excitement.
We spent most of Sunday snuggled up!
We had our own Valentine's Day celebration, of course, that included me making dinner (spaghetti aka the only thing I know how to make well) and a heart-shaped cake for dessert.
Fun shaped calories don't count, right?!
We got to puppysit for little Ella and the Porterfield girls were kind enough to swing by and help with all that puppy energy!
Jocelin and Ella

"Time to work? OK!"

She stole MacK's spot
While we LOVE having that little ball of energy around, it is a good reminder to appreciate just how easy MacKenzie is to care for these days. Perhaps having an older dog isn't so bad after all!
The world's most perfect pup!
As you can see, we've hit the ground running to catch up on all that we missed by being gone for so long. It is always nice to be home and surrounded by the ones you love. It is finally time to pay for all that fun and head back to both jobs for me: tax season is here!

Jackson visits Naples!

After being together for pretty much every moment for five weeks while we were in Australia to going over two weeks without seeing each other, we were pretty excited for Jackson to visit Naples! He came in on an early flight and spent time snuggling with MacK while I worked for a few hours.
Reunited!

MacK took my spot!

I think they missed each other
After I finished a couple of projects, we headed for our favorite beach spot!
It was SO good to be back together again
We settled easily into our "Naples routine" of hitting the beach, Tropical Smoothie and just kind of relaxing in the warm sun.
Watching for golfers
Jackson played a few quick rounds

Gator golf?!

BEST place for lunch!
Sunday evening Susan returned home from her trip to Jerusalem. We watched the Super Bowl, I won a $20 bet with Jackson and we had quite the Mexican-themed food spread. It was great! The next evening Susie took us to the Turtle Club which is one of the few restaurants actually right on the beach. We had delicious seafood and caught an awesome sunset.
Turtle Club!

Calamari

Oh the sunsets never get old!

LOVE this guy

Mother and Son
We seriously spent the days soaking in the sun (too much) and just enjoying being back together with MacKenzie. We took an evening flight home and MacKenzie was the perfect little passenger. She flies for $95 under the seat on Southwest. It is only about a 2.5 hour flight so she just took a quick nap and then she was home. It was SO easy! She does, admittedly, get a little heavy to carry over your shoulder. ;)

I had a great time preparing for retirement (I did work a ton while I was down there, though, so I'm not completely prepared). Thanks for letting me condo-sit, Susie!
