I woke up in Talkeetna sick as a small dog. I woke up multiple times during the night because swallowing was so painful. I was certain that I needed to have my tonsils out. Thankfully a stop in Wasilla at Target provided me with the medicine I needed to continue to explore the state.
The drive down was productive. We stopped at the University of Alaska Anchorage to get shirts and stopped at the mall to replace my sunglasses. (That was a $100 mistake. Grumble.) We even did it up big and dined at the Olive Garden for lunch. It was actually pretty good. The drive from Anchorage to Girdwood, home of the Alyeska resort, was gorgeous.
Jackson is really proud of his Chevy Sonic rental car. Ha! :)
Ahhh my sunglasses are back. It didn't matter it me that it was overcast. I just wanted to enjoy having them back to shield my laser eyes from any bright light.
The drive was full of pull off points. Very thoughtful, Alaska.
We stood on the famous Alaskian Railroad's tracks!
We settled in, took a nap, then headed out to hike. Time doesn't matter here because the sun never goes down. We hiked until 3 a.m. EST which is 11 p.m. here.
My handsome hiking partner.
Who dropped his water bottle while posing and had to climb down to get it. Right after this photo he fell down. Hard. I exclaimed, "Baby! Are you ok? You're too old to fall like that. Are you hurt?!" And he scolded me for calling him old.
A Kim Kardashian tree?
The hotel front desk recommended this hike to a hand tram. The hike was over 2.5 miles to the silly tram. They forgot to tell us that part. Jackson was really excited to go across.
Then a moose walked up and questioned what he was doing. It was so awesome.
The view from the hand tram didn't stink.
I eventually relented and went across.
The trail lead us by some awesome waterfalls.
A good view of the trail and the river it followed
Just a pretty scenery shot
Again. I like my new camera, ok?!
I loved this bridge
so we hiked over to it and it was just gorgeous up there
The other bridges were sometimes just a lone log
Jackson took a break on one of their awesome benchesThe resort has a tram to the top of the mountain to a restaurant (and ski runs in the winter)
The view from our room is pretty too. Jackson doesn't usually splurge for nicer hotels so I'm enjoying this place while it lasts! :)
